Castle Bromwich Parish Council

Castle Bromwich Parish Council was formed at a Parish Meeting held on December 4th 1894 and held its first meeting in the school room on Saturday, December 22nd 1894.

The Members elected were Viscount Newport, John Smallwood, Allen Foden, Edward Bosworth, John Daffearn and Thomas Clayton. John Smallwood agreed to accept the post of Clerk, and Lord Newport's remark that "that his kind consent to act would be not only an advantage, but also a saving of expense to the Parish."

In the early days the primary concerns of the Council were the primitive sewage systems which the Medical Officer of Health believed caused  widespread Scarlet Fever. By the start of the twentieth century sewage improvement schemes were started, but it was to be a further twenty-five years before they were fully effective.

Hopefully, today things have moved on somewhat, but I'm sure some concerns remain the same. Documentation reveals that even in those early days extreme concern was felt at the intemperance prevalent in the village on Sundays and deputations sent to the Landlord of the Bradford Arms and the Coach and Horses.

Residents wishing to know more about the primary concerns of Castle Bromwich Parish Council today should check the Agendas and Minutes posted on the Parish Council Website or attend the meetings which are open to the public.

Useful Information

The Finance & General Purposes Committee (Plans) Meetings are held at 7.15 pm in the Windsor Room, all other Meetings commence at 7.30 pm, and are held in the Windsor Room at Arden Hall (unless stated otherwise in the following listing).

Three days before each Meeting, the Agenda will be deposited at the Parish Council Offices for public inspection. In the event of a change in any of the above Meetings, notification will be posted at the Parish Council Offices three days before the intended Meeting.

Minutes of Meetings are available for inspection at the Parish Council Offices. Castle Bromwich Library and Solihull Central Library normally have the most recent set of minutes available for inspection. Copies of Agendas, Reports, Background papers and Minutes are available for the Parish Council Offices at a nominal cost.

All Meetings of the Parish Council and its Committees are open for the Press and Public to attend. However they can not take part in any discussion, except during the Public Session of a Parish Council Meeting. At some meetings, the Council or Committee may have to discuss confidential items, in which case the Chairman will ask the Press and Public to leave the room for that part of the Meeting.
