I have been asked to post this question on behalf of a number of residents throughout Castle Bromwich who are experiencing problems with motorists parking on grass verges and double yellow lines, particularly around schools at drop off and pick up times.

The residents feel that this practice is destroying the environment by churning up mud and a major safety hazard to both pedestrians and motorists. Their query is who is responsible for stopping it and who should they contact?

'll just post quickly in response to some of this. I will undertake as an interested resident to write to local schools asking them to include something in their news letters asking parents to give more thought to parking particularly as ultimately it may be their child who is injured if cars are illegally parked.

I have almost emailed the Neighbourhood Police Sgt asking for his view on this and I will contact Solihull MBC and see if I can establish some way to get this sorted. If anybody else is having problem sof this kind, can they please just post a street name and the nature of the problem here or if they prefer the details to remain out of the public domain email me at inspirationalley@googlemail.com

As promised I've checked this out. Sgt O'Reilly advises me that:-

Officers visited at start of school this week and issued advice and tickets.

Further partnership work, in conjunction with Solihull MBC, is going to be conducted again soon. Letters are being prepared.

The work will target both before and after school parking issues.

I seem to remember, some time ago, I agree, that we had what was called a patch man, in Castle Bromwich. I picked up this persons phone number from the Hurst Lane Library.

His role was to be the "patch" between residents and organisations,

What happened to this link, I wonder?

I don't know but there are Neighbourhood Managers in the Solihull Team.Alison Lush fulfills this role for Castle Bromwich and she's going to give a talk on what her role entails at Castle Bromwich Library at 10;30 on Friday 24th April. I can personally vouch that Alison is very helpful and works in close contact with all sorts of organisations within Castle Bromwich to resolve problem sand to mmake things run smoothly.

HERE's the information on the Solihull site about "patch" now known as Neighbourhood Managers.

The Neighbourhood Managers and Coordinators identify problems and problem areas within Solihull and work with partner organisations to tackle them. They have drawn up Local Area Action Plans to bring real improvements to the streetscene and local environment in the short and longer term. The aim of the Local Area Action Plans are to make your area a better place to live environmentally and to help to reduce the fear of crime.

The types of work range from:

  • Highways improvements
  • Landscaping projects
  • Cleaning up identified problem areas
  • Introducing measures to reduce vandalism and anti social behaviour
  • Providing street furniture

For Bickenhill, Kingshurst and Fordbridge, Castle Bromwich, Chelmsley Wood and Smithswood.

I have been asked by some residents to thank the police and their partners for acting promptly on their concerns.

This needs to be done after school hours even as late as 10.00pm

It's not just parking on grass verges and yellow lines that is on the increase in Castle Bromwich. It is now the norm to park on pavements completely blocking them on occasions. I often wonder how wheelchair users, the blind and mothers with pushchairs get past these obstructions without going into the road.

Cars for sale on grass verges on Water Orton Road.  Please be aware there is a spate of cars being put up for sale on WO Road.. not only is this unsighlty, and ruins the grass and kills any plants... but implies they are owned by residents... in most cases they are not and are rogue traders.. does anyone know what we can do to get these moved?
