Early I September I received the Autumn edition of "Your Solihull". In the article "Recycling Round Up" they stated we should have recently received our new recycling calendars beginning September 2010, including the Christmas arrangements for collections.

Has everyone received their's? I haven't. I informed Solihull MBC I hadn't and I'm still waiting. Hopefully we will get it by Christmas.

Thanks for the link.

Interesting to see there are double collections on 3rd & 4th January. I wonder if they will empty the bins if the lids are not fully closed and take any additional black bags left by the bins?

Having said that, a neighbour left about six black bags next to their bin yesterday and the bin men took them. Have the council changed their policy I wonder? I must ask Solihull MBC what their policy is now.

Hillwalker,......its not the council who determine which refuse will be taken,,,,,well,,,,not  always......its the crew, who can argue with you the wage payer, on a point of policy which you will find hard to challenge.

Count your blessings, and keep your head down!!!

One would think, that the Parish Council, would have a supply of relevant information, on hand for the benifit of the electorate. But then...maybe not!!!

Of course it's the Council that has set the policy that nothing put beside the black bin will be taken. Another neighbour of mine had their black bin left unemptied because the lid wasn't shut.

I also find it impossible to believe that the contractor would take any additional rubbish away if they have been instructed not to. They move as fast as possible as it is to get the job done. More often that not recycling items, paper, cans etc ends up on the pavement due to their carelessness and stays there unless residents pick it up.

Perhaps if residents offered to slip them a fiver they would take the extra waste away.

Don't tell me to complain to the Council because I do, and usually get nowhere.

We finally received the new recycling calendar this week.

I see we can pay £30 + VAT and have additional collections of green waste between December to March. We can also pay £39 for an additional green bin plus £60 + VAT to have it emptied.

I will pass on that and take any additional green waste to the Tameside Drive tip. Even if the additional bin was free to have and free to empty I wouldn't want yet another cluttering up the back yard.

We still haven't got our recycling calendar.

I dis though learn at a meeting yesterday that I won't have to pay to have my hessian type bag replaced so I can continue recycling plastic bottles. Ours is in shreds. I had no idea until yesterday why this was as it hasn't been abused, but I was at a meeting yesterday where I was informed that there was a fault in the uv protection filter that was added to the original bags and that any stored outside ( as ours is as we haven't got a garage and there's no room in the house)  have disintegrated. As a result, Solihull Council is supplying replacements free of charge.

We should have all received new white bags for plastic recycling this week. Mine looks as if it's made out the very same stuff as the old one was. Furthermore there's warning on the side not to put it the sunlight. Maybe we will be getting another bag in a year or two.

My niece who comes under East Staffs Council has one wheelie bin for everything recyclable, including cardboard & all kinds of plastic. Why is Solihull MBC behind lesser councils on recycling.

I also read  in The Solihull News that in the same week we received our new recycling calendar that the council are considering changing the collection of recyclables to collecting everything every two weeks. This they say will remove the "confusion" some people have with knowing when to put out what. Personally, I think anyone who is confused will still be confused and put it out on the wrong week what ever the council do.
