The residents of Solihull, and more to the point, Castle Bromwich, are being denied access to Tamar Drive re cycling plant.

It is for the exclusive use of Birmingham residents only.

I have made enquiries by E-Mail to Solihull Stratgetic Services, and I have a print out of their reply.

It says, Tamar Drive is within the boundry of Solihull, and is open to all residents.

I was turned away. I gave my post code, to the attendent, who gave me a leaflet, explaining why.

With the traditional house clear out season coming up, I can see a confrontational situation on teh horizion.

Lets get this situation cleared up...or should I say, re cycled.

This is an issue that has been taken up by the Parish Council who have been making representation to the Solihull MBC as the Birmingham City website still states that the Tameside Drive Recycling Plant is for use by residents of the Birmingham Authority only and that all other people will be refused entry. See HERE. The Borough Councillors for Castle Bromwich have been reporting back to the Parish Council on the progress of negotiations between Solihull MBC and Birmingham City Council. The re-cycling plant is owned and managed by Birmingham City Council and Solihull is trying to reach an agreement with them to enable Solihull residents to utilise the facilities as well.

In the minutes of the Castle Bromwich Parish Council, dated 30th September, 2009, item 5, states that this issue is resolved. Cllr Hilley reported that a relative of his, had indeed received a written apology.!!!

I dont want a written apology.....I want to reduce my carbon footprint....no too difficult to comprehend  is it?

I am a Solihull resident and I have never been asked for a post code at the Tamar Drive refuse/recycling depot. If they ever ask for one I have a Birmingham post code on the underside of my car sun visor which I refresh my memory of as I drive up Tamar Drive.

I suggest others do like wise, just ask a friend with a Birmingham post code what it is.

This issue of the Thamside Drive recycling plant, and the refusal of the employees to refuse entry to us who live in Solihull.

These men are only doing what they have been told to do. Fair enough.

What  their action is creating is a  a culture among us to be liars and deceivers.

Just like a member of parliment really.

The habit will catch on, as the warmer weather comes and we have our annual clean out.

I can see Birmingham taking more drastic measures to safeguard their expenditure spent on waste disposal.

We residents of Solihull will become even more resourceful. Its got all the makings of a Whitehall Theatre farce.

Cllr Richards advises that following a meeting with Birmingham Council Waste Team, a 6 month pilot scheme is to be held monitoring usage of the Thameside Drive tip by residents with a B36 postcode. Further details will follow when the scheme has been set up.

I went to this tip last week and wasn't asked any questions about where I lived and no details were taken of my car registration number.
