Solihull has once again been awarded gold and best city in the Heart of England in Bloom Awards 2010.
This is the sixth consecutive year Solihull has been awarded gold in the regional awards which sees individual streets, villages, towns and cities compete for a bronze, silver or gold standard for their local area.
The Heart of England in Bloom judges visited the borough in July and were taken around a range of attractions including Castle Bromwich Gardens, Newlands Bishop Farm, Bentley Heath Allotments and Knot Gardens.
They also visited Blythe Valley Business Park and were so impressed by the conservation area they awarded it a discretionary award for landscaping.
Since March the Solihull in Bloom campaign has been in full flow to ensure the borough looked beautiful for the judges to notice and residents to enjoy. This year’s campaign has included the annual garden competition, new Community Mosaic Garden in Mell Square and special flowerbed design in Malvern Park, as well as many community projects.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Tim Hodgson said: “This is a fantastic result. Once again the Council, residents, local organisations and businesses have come together to make Solihull a clean, green and attractive place for everyone to enjoy. This award is something we should all be very proud of.”
The results of the national Britain in Bloom awards which Solihull is nominated for the city category takes place on 29 September.
