Cannabis plants described as “the size of Christmas trees” were discoverer by Solihull Police during a raid in Chelmsley Wood.
Officers executed a warrant in Stella Croft on Tuesday July 6 and found the lounge had been converted into a drugs farm. The hydroponics set-up included lights, heaters, timers and an automatic irrigation system, whilst the walls, floor and ceilinghad all been covered with insulating sheets.Fifteen plants were recovered in total, some of which had grown to around five feet in height and four feet in width.
Chelmsley Wood Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Mark Cowl, said:“These were the largest cannabis plants I’ve uncovered during my 12 years as a police officer; the lounge was like a forest.”
The raid followed tip-offs from the local community – and Sgt Cowl stressed the important role members of the public play in combating drug crime.
He added: “I’d encourage any members of the public who suspect a neighbour ofcultivating cannabis to drop us a line; community intelligence is vital in our fight against drug dealing. Any information passed to us will be handled inconfidence.”
Two men aged 37- and 22-years-old were arrested at the property on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and have been bailed until next month pending forensic analysis. The plants and equipment were seized and destroyed.
