Oaks and Shires

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 9:08 AM

If you'd been down in the woods today you may have been surprised at the range of activities on offer as part of the Oaks and Shires event at Smiths Wood Local Nature Reserve.

The musical Green Man was present entertaining and educating visitors, as was the Shire Horse which is used in woodland management. In addition, there was the opportunity to toast marshmallows, make pencils from twigs and craft gypsy flowers. Face painting and badge making were also on offer for younger visitors and willow weaving and bird of prey exhibits proved popular with all.

I also visited this event.
It was free of charge & there was plenty of workshops to try your hand at.
Lots of very knowledgable & experienced helpers on hand to answer every query & the talent of these woodland enthusiasts demonstrating their skills was awesome.
Well done to all who took part & thank you on behalf of all those that attended & enjoyed this event.
